The case for peristaltic pumps– 6-Nov-2012
Every fluid has different handling requirements and some are easier to handle than others, but operational and maintenance issues can ease with the right type of pump. While one solution may not fit all pump applications, comparing the type of pump in use with a peristaltic pump is a place to start
Shear-sensitive pumping– 5-Nov-2012
Many pharmaceuticals products require pumps that can handle shear-sensitive liquids as well as liquids that can have an adverse affect on mechanical seals. The oscillating eccentric piston pump principle produces the pumping performance of a rotary positive displacement pump, but its action is far more sensitive, making it suitable for applications where shear and potential leakage are major issues. Cleaning and sterilising can also be carried out in place.
The silent worker in the lab– 2-Nov-2012
Mass spectrometry and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) rely on high quality vacuum to operate effectively and efficiently. Vacuum pump technology offers quiet operation, control, serviceability, uptime and reduced footprint, as well as being hermetically sealed and oil-free
Pumps for biopharmaceuticals– 8-Nov-2011
Air operated double diaphragm (AODD) technology can be used for many applications including the complex fluid transfer needs encountered within the biopharmaceuticals industry. This article describes the evolution of the pump, explains its workings and maintenance and illustrates its use in applications that involve handling contamination sensitive materials. Its high product containment and easy cleaning traits are also highlighted.
Pumps keep lab work flowing– 4-Apr-2011
As lab processes become automated, understanding the various pumping technologies is key to specifying the vacuum pump best suited to each application. Edwards highlights the various options
