North America has the largest market share globally

The global chiral separation chromatography columns market was valued at US$64.1m in 2012 and is expected to grow to about $87.7m by 2018, at a CAGR of 5.2% from 2013 to 2018, according to a new report by Micro Market Monitor.

Globally, North America takes the largest share of the chiral separation chromatography market, and demand for chiral separation chromatography columns in the region is anticipated to grow in future, owing to increased funding by the US Government in medical research, a rise in the demand for green technologies, and the growing concerns of food safety that require chromatography techniques for quality checks.

Increasing partnerships between companies with research laboratories and academic institutes are also set to help the growth of this market in the near future.

As of 2013, the US contributed a major share of about 83% to the North American chiral separation chromatography columns market.

The European region is the second-largest market and is projected to grow at a CAGR of 5% from 2013 to 2018. A rise in government investments in the chromatography techniques market in France, new international Goods Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and GDP certification guidelines for pharmaceutical excipients, and advancements in chromatography instruments technology are factors that will help with the growth of this market.

Germany had the highest share of 23.1% in the European chiral separation chromatography columns market in 2013. But the need for different stationary phases for different enantiomers and high costs associated with the performance of HPLC-chiral on compounds that are difficult to separate could hinder the growth of this market, the report says.

The Asian region is anticipated to increase its share and grow significantly in future, due to an increase in chromatography-based research in countries such as India, increased investments by governments in China. Increasing use of chromatography instruments in Japan, and increasing demand for analytical instruments in China are also expected to drive growth.

The chiral separation chromatography columns market in Asia is further expected to grow as an increasing number of companies invest in the region.
