PPMA 2014: Allen Coding to show XL series of low cost thermal transfer printers

Published: 22-Aug-2014

XL-Series of low cost thermal transfer coders is aimed at emerging markets and entry-level variable print applications

Allen Coding will be showing a wide range of high performance marking and coding systems, including its XL-Series of low cost thermal transfer coders for emerging markets and entry-level variable print applications. The automatic ARF-1 feeder is capable of handling cartons or sleeves up to a maximum of 375x400mm and will be featured on stand with the Hitachi RX-S continuous ink jet coder. Other equipment on display is set to include the ICON laser coder and NGT2+ thermal transfer printer.

As well as a two-component, space-saving design, the XL-Series offers several exciting new features, including the iView colour touch screen with simple-to-use graphical user interface and the multi-tasking a:touch module for convenient multi-printer operation, Ethernet and USB connectivity, and duel processors (one for communication and one for printing) to ensure high speed performance.

The XL-Series was specially designed to provide seamless Unicode performance for high speed printing of variable information in a wide variety of languages. In addition, a simple design and robust construction helps meet the requirements of most industrial coding applications. The iView touch screen can be configured in English, German, Spanish, Portuguese, French, Italian, Swedish, Russian, Korean and Arabic. Additional user-interface languages are regularly added and specific languages can be included on request.

Featuring a robust, industrial design and up to 600 metres ribbon capacity for extended use with minimal downtime, Allen’s XL-Series provides reliable and accurate printing of barcodes, sell-by dates, batch numbers, prices, source codes and other text and graphics, including Julian date and 2D Datamatrix codes, at speeds up to 450 prints per minute at 5mm print height.

There are four models in the range: the 53XL80U features a maximum print area of 53x80mm; the 53XL40 features a print area of 53x40mm; the 53XLC is a continuous version with print area of 53x80mm, while the 25XLi uses miniature ribbon for precise printing in small areas.

Allen Coding’s ARF-1 feeder is ideal for handling cartons or sleeves and offers simple set up and operation. Robust and reliable, the unit is built on castors for easy transportation to different areas of the production environment and has an in-feed option of either nip roller or pusher plate. It is compatible with all of Allen Coding’s thermal transfer, laser and continuous ink jet printers and runs at a variable print speed up to 60 metres per minute. A special pharmaceutical version of the ARF-1 incorporates shingling conveyor, reject station and character recognition as standard. The ARF-2 is a bench mounted model.

The RX-S continuous ink jet printer is specially designed for accurate reproduction of a wide range of fonts in multiple languages, as well as bar codes and 2D DataMatrix codes, logos and graphics directly onto uneven or flexible substrates including glass, plastics, metal and rubber. Developed for today’s exceptionally fast and challenging production environments, the RX-S provides high speed printing, as well as superior print head technology for stable drop placement and print quality.

Developed as an ideal first introduction to laser technology, the ICON laser system is easy to use, fast and priced competitively with ink jet printers. Specially designed for small character coding, ICON features an integrated colour touch screen and intuitive interface with context sensitive menus for ease of navigation. ICON uses high performance optics, powerful hardware and advanced, low overhead software to enable its core laser to meet the high speeds of most production lines. Meanwhile, its compact design means it can be installed in locations where space is limited.

The high speed NGT2+ is the latest addition to Allen Coding’s range of NGT thermal transfer coders. Aimed at top end pharmaceutical and food applications, the system’s control unit is built into the print head for significant space saving benefits and centralised operation. It can be easily integrated into other packaging and labelling equipment and has a USB interface for back up and formatting.
