As part of consortium\'s third-party auditing pilot programme

Rx-360, an international non-profit consortium of pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies and suppliers dedicated to improving pharmaceutical supply chain security, has completed 11 Joint Audits as part of its third-party auditing pilot programme.

The first Rx-360 audit was of the Phillipsburg, NJ facility of Avantor Performance Materials, a global supplier of purification and process intermediate chemicals and bulk pharmaceutical excipients. The other completed audits include 4 sites in Asia, 4 in Europe and 2 in the US.

‘This significant milestone has proven that industry can collaborate to produce a more effective and efficient audit process,’ said Martin VanTrieste, former chairman of Rx-360.

The Joint Audit Program, which is one of the consortium’s initial objectives, aims to increase the effectiveness of each audit by collecting and analysing more information while at the same time reducing the audit burden on suppliers and pharmaceutical companies.

Rx-360 uses qualified third-party auditors to conduct supplier audits on behalf of its members. All auditors are provided the same training by Rx-360, which ensures that each audit is effective, efficient and consistent. Once complete, the audit report is placed in an electronic database to which Rx-360 members have access, in lieu of conducting an on-site audit themselves.

RX-360 says the Joint Audit Program will be launched on a broader scale in the second half of 2011.
