Watson-Marlow acquires business and assets of Flow Smart for £5.7m

Extending its fluid path product portfolio and strengthening its global presence in the biotech and pharma industries

Watson-Marlow Fluid Technology Group (WMFTG) has acquired the business and assets of Flow Smart through its parent company Spirax-Sarco Engineering, for £5.7m.

Flow Smart, based in Seaford, Delaware, US, specialises in the design and manufacture of high purity sanitary gaskets, silicone transfer tubing and reinforced silicone hoses for the bioprocessing and pharmaceutical industries.

The business will be integrated into WMFTG and Lou Bongiorno, founder and President of Flow Smart, will transfer with staff to Watson-Marlow Flow Smart and continue in his role as President.

WMFTG said Flow Smart is a natural extension of the firm's fluid path product portfolio and strengthens its global presence in the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries, which includes Watson-Marlow Pumps, Watson-Marlow Tubing, Flexicon Filling Systems, BioPure single-use tubing connector systems, Asepco aseptic valves, and Alitea OEM Pumps.

Flow Smart’s products use industry leading technology to improve sterility within the biotechnology production process. They include fabric, braided and wire reinforced platinum silicone hoses and high performance sanitary gasket products.

The company has developed an extensive range of high purity gasket compounds with superior performance ranging from EPDM, Viton, Platinum Silicone, PTFE, to Poly4D.
