Johnson Matthey completes the £256m transaction to sell its research chemicals business to US life science supplier


Alfa Aesar is now part of Thermo Fisher Scientific following the completion of Johnson Matthey's cash £256m sale of the research chemicals business.

The transaction was first announced on 25 June.

Alfa Aesar is a supplier of more than 46,000 speciality chemicals to both industry and academic institutions in small-scale research quantities.

Commenting on the deal, Robert MacLeod, Chief Executive of Johnson Matthey, said: 'The divestment of the research chemicals business is a further step in delivering our long-term strategy to focus the group on growth areas where we can apply our expertise in complex chemistry to create long term value for our shareholders.'
