Temperature-controlled packaging incorporates the efficiencies of the Almac-approved, global courier network and advanced phase change technology

With the rise of biologics and the introduction of strict Good Distribution Practices (GDP), Almac has recognised the need for new temperature-controlled packaging, with the launch of the Almac Pod.

The Almac Pod incorporates the efficiencies of the Almac-approved, global courier network and advanced phase change technology (PCM) to create a temperature-controlled shipping service solution.

The Almac Pod offers a 'protected, optimised and dynamic solution' that safeguards products and mitigates against temperature excursions of all clinical shipments – the perfect solution for biologics or difficult to handle products, the Craigavon, Ireland-based firm says.

Since launching the service, the Almac Pod has been 100% effective in protecting the integrity of shipped products with no known temperature excursions within the shipper qualification period, the firm says.

Andrew Scott, Head of Logistics (EU) at Almac, said: 'With rapid growth in the volume of our controlled temperature shipments over the past few years, the introduction of innovative solutions such as the Almac Pod allows us to deliver on the growing needs of our clinical trial supply customers.

'The service has enabled us to achieve a major step up in protection for temperature-controlled products during transit that competes with the traditional water-based solutions.'
