Biotage has launched PyroMark ID, a new solution for sequence-based microbial identification and resistance typing.

Designed to determine microbial ID based on real sequence data in a clinically-relevant timeframe, PyroMark ID provides real-time sequencing to clinical microbiologists for high-throughput identification of clinically important bacteria, fungi and viruses. It also analyses SNPs responsible for antibiotic resistance.

Work has already been performed by independent scientists to analyse mutations in katG (isoniazid resistance); rpoB (rifampicin resistance); gyrA and parC (fluoroquinolone resistance); 16S rDNA (tetracycline resistance) and 23S rDNA (resistance to macrolides or oxazolidinones) of diverse bacterial species. Detection of SNPs conferring antifungal or antiviral resistance is also possible.

Biotage focuses on serving the life sciences industry, with its main areas of expertise being genetic analysis and medicinal chemistry. It is one of the fastest growing technology groups in Europe and has more than 200 employees.

PyroMark ID will be on display at the ASM Annual General Meeting, 6-8 June, Atlanta (booth 1816).
