Colorcon has said the company will build a new starch manufacturing plant in The Netherlands. A coatings specialist, Colorcon is headquartered in Pennsylvania (US), and the company expects to double the existing manufacturing capacity of excipients upon completion of the new site by 2022. The amount of the investment has not been disclosed.
Martti Hedman, CEO of Colorcon, said the company is investing ahead of demand. "The facility is also an important step in securing the supply chain for our customers and enhances Colorcon's Business Continuity Plan as the demand for Starch 1500 continues to grow."
Colorcon's new plant in Europe is said to be located near Amsterdam and dedicated to the production of Colorcon Starch 1500 pregelatinised maize starch; GMP products for the pharmaceutical and nutritional markets.
"The location has been chosen to bring manufacturing closer to our customer base in Europe," said Nathan Evans, Operations Project Manager, Netherlands. Evans pointed out the plant will be a secure second source of supply with the same quality, consistency and equivalency to the product manufactured at Colorcon's existing facility in Indianapolis, US.
