CurTec launches sustainable 60-litre nestable drum

New drum will contribute to a sustainable supply chain, increase logistical efficiency and reduce overall cost

CurTec’s successful line of nestable drums is set to be expanded with the introduction of a 60-litre version. The new drum will help contribute positively to a sustainable supply chain, increase logistical efficiency and reduce overall cost.

The development of CurTec’s nestable drum range began in response to pharmaceutical manufacturer Merck/MSD’s need for re-useable bulk tablet containers. As part of a Six Sigma project for operational excellence, Merck/MSD searched for partners to help it meet sustainability and efficiency goals, and eventually chose CurTec to design its new container – a 40-litre nestable drum.

Because the need to save costs and optimise logistical processes was universal, CurTec added two further capacities and presented the range as a standard product line. The 60-litre version is the latest addition to the range, aimed at providing even greater efficiencies.

Higher-volume packaging helps maximise the amount of cargo shipped - reducing vehicle traffic and related emissions of carbon dioxide and other pollutants. In addition to the environmental benefits of using volume-efficient packaging, nestable drums can reduce shipping costs by up to 30%, and the reuse of drums only multiplies those savings. Neither manufacturers nor the planet profit from the transporting of empty space, making the new nestable drum an example of the alignment of environmental and economic goals.

Volume-efficient packaging is part of CurTec’s commitment to reducing its own carbon footprint and providing its customers with solutions that are both sustainable and cost-efficient.
