Director of the Johannes Burges Group has transferred his company shares to the Johannes Burges Family Foundation

In a forward-looking move, the Johannes Burges Group has set the course for the future of its operations, heralding a new chapter in its 110-year corporate history. Johannes Burges, the sole proprietor and director of the Group, has transferred his company shares to the Johannes Burges Family Foundation, which he founded as a succession regulation.

The Johannes Burges Group currently employs more than 900 people in Germany and Austria, achieving revenues of nearly Euro 250 million last year. The group consists of Hermes Pharma, a subsidiary of Hermes Arzneimittel, a German provider of medicines and food supplements, and Bad Heilbrunner.

By transferring the group shares, Johannes Burges has ensured the future independence and sustainability of the entire group of companies. All affiliated companies can continue to be managed in his spirit, while preserving a joint corporate culture, sustainable development and independence from potential external investors. As a result, all customers–be they consumers, patients, pharmacists or B2B customers of Hermes-can expect the same level of quality of products and services in the future.

Who is in charge now?

From now on, the Family Foundation is the owner of the Johannes Burges Group. Its board of directors will initially consist of the two Hermes managing directors, Holger Dietel and Jörg Wieczorek, for a period of ten years. Johannes Burges is Chairman of the Board of Trustees; other members are Hermes Pharma’s Managing Director Dr Andreas Schrepfer and attorney Dr Wolfram Theiss, of the law firm Noerr.

"By establishing the Family Foundation, we created a solid base for the future of the Group," said Johannes Burges. "The Foundation guarantees economic independence. We are able to continue our successful history and offer our employees security and a long-term perspective."

In addition, Johannes Burges is committed to his social responsibility. For this purpose, one of the beneficiaries of the Family Foundation is the non-profit Hermes-Johannes-Burges Foundation, which is dedicated to the promotion of preventive medicine and healthcare as well as related research.
