Ian Hudson to head the UK’s MHRA

He will take up the role of Chief Executive in September

The UK’s Department of Health has appointed Ian Hudson as Chief Executive of the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA).

Hudson is currently the MHRA’s Licensing Director, responsible for the majority of medicines licensing activity. He is the UK delegate to the Committee on Human Medicinal Products (CHMP) at the European Medicines Agency and has been its Vice-Chairman since October 2012. He will take up the post in September when Sir Kent Woods steps down after 10 years with the Agency.

Hudson practised as a paediatrician for a number of years before working in the pharmaceutical industry in clinical research and development between 1989 and 2001 when he joined the MCA (Medicines Control Agency) as Director of the Licensing Division.
