Provides clinical trial management systems

Icon, a global provider of outsourced development services to the pharmaceutical, biotechnology and medical device industries, based in Dublin, Ireland, has bought Firecrest Clinical, a provider of clinical trial performance management systems, for an undisclosed sum.

Limerick-based Firecrest Clinical was founded in 2001 and provides a web-based solution that enables accurate information on clinical trials, including protocol information, training manuals and case report forms, to be rolled out quickly and simultaneously at a number of manufacturing sites. Site behaviour can then be tracked to ensure training is understood, procedures are being followed, timelines are met and study parameters are maintained.

Peter Gray, chief executive of Icon said the companies are a ‘good fit’.

‘We have worked with Firecrest on a number of trials and have seen first hand how their technology improves quality through enhanced protocol compliance and drives efficiencies by reducing data queries and errors at sites,’ he said.

Gary Hughes, Firecrest ceo and co-founder, said the deal would enable the company to continue to grow and develop new technologies.
