Said to offer cleaner, greener label printing

Markem-Imaje has launched new thermal transfer and inkjet printers, which it says are economic to use and eco-friendly.

The France-headquartered coding and marking specialist says the SmartDate X40 incorporates state-of-the-art features to minimise ribbon usage and maintenance requirements, helping customers control their coding costs while reducing their impact on the environment.

The device is fitted with a new intelligent printhead that optimises print quality and a more efficient ribbon that minimises waste.

Serge Kral, president of the Markem-Imaje Product Group, said: ‘We have eliminated preventative maintenance procedures thanks to our direct ribbon drive and improved the cassette design to remove any wear parts. We’ve extended our manufacturer warranty to 18 months, and increased ribbon length to 1,100 metres to reduce changeovers and increase uptime.’

He says the company has also improved printhead performance by pledging no ‘dead dots’ for the first 40 kilometres of ribbon or for one year.

The X40 is offered with a range of ribbon widths from 20mm to 55mm; CoLOS Create 5.0 software with a new automatic ribbon-saving feature; a 32mm printhead option for applications requiring a narrower ribbon, plus a new 1100m ribbon for longer running between changeovers and improved cost per print. Print speeds are 600mm/sec at 300dpi.

Markem Imaje claims the X40 offers up to 50% reduction in power consumption and up to 20% less ribbon waste.

New to the 9000 series of small character inkjets, is the 9232, which prints high-quality date codes, logos, alphanumeric text, 1D and 2D barcodes and other product and traceability information.

This printer features a 7in colour touch-screen, which displays clear, real-time data about machine status, ink usage and maintenance procedures. The ink cartridges, now with a longer lifespan, can be changed without mess, and without stopping the coding operation.

The 9232 prints at speeds of up to 6.6m per second and characters have a font height of up to 32 dots.

The 9232 is made from 80% recyclable materials and a new range of RoHS-compliant Ketone-free and MEK-free inks is available. Power consumption is reduced, and limited to a maximum of 60VA.

‘Never before has a manufacturer in this industry made a commitment to support its equipment with tangible benefits that customers can measure,’ said Kral.

‘Our aim is to help reduce our customers’ lifetime costs, and improve their sustainability by generating less waste.’
