TD Packaging of Swindon, UK, a specialist in outsourced packaging and distribution services for the healthcare sector, has boosted capacity with the installation of a sixth Noack blister packer.

Flexibility and efficiency levels have also been raised by the installation of a Hapa 231R UV flexo printer for blister foils.

Recently purchased by United Drug of Ireland, TD has relocated to 158,000 sq ft premises with 17 packaging cubicles where it can handle most pharmaceutical packaging requirements.

Flexibility for a variety of products and feeding methods as well as fast changeover are key features of the Noak blister packer, enabling TD to deliver fast turnaround.

The latest machine purchased is a platen-sealing Noack 623, which affords ease of operation combined with higher outputs and greater flexibility in blister formats thanks to increased web width and a larger sealing area. It has been delivered as part of a complete line, supplied by Romaco, which also features a Promatic P91 intermittent motion cartoner plus Laetus Polyphem blister inspection system, as well as an OCS checkweigher and PRB overwrapper. Romaco is the UK pharma industry agent for both OCS and PRB.

Speed of response is essential in the highly competitive outsourcing sector and TD claims to have taken a giant leap forward in this respect following the installation of the Hapa 231R UV flexo foil printer. The Hapa printer uses rubber or photopolymer print mats and UV flexo inks to produce impressions of a quality said to be indistinguishable from pre-print. UV light affords instant curing to prevent smudging and the unit offers throughput of almost 20 metres/min.

The model chosen is a standalone reel-to-reel version, meaning that for maximum flexibility TD can print the foil offline and then transfer it to any of its blister machines.
