NextPharma Technologies doubles its production area in Bielefeld, Germany

Also launches stick pack packaging lines as part of its five-year growth plan


NextPharma Technologies, a contract manufacturer to the pharmaceutical industry, has ‘significantly expanded’ its production area and stick pack (small tube-shaped sachet) packaging capabilities at its facility in Bielefeld, Germany.

Following a 10-month renovation phase the Bielefeld production area has been doubled to 3,400m2. The investment is part of NextPharma’s five-year growth plan that includes new rooms, air conditioning and the highest level of technical infrastructure at the plant.

‘NextPharma is reinforcing its position as a strategic partner for the development and commercial manufacturing of non-sterile drugs. The first three stick pack packaging lines are already operational within the expanded facility and utilisation is set to be at 50% by the end of the year,’ said Andrew Kelly, Chief Operating Officer, NextPharma.

Five new people have been hired as a result of the expansion of the packaging lines.

NextPharma offers a full range of services from early phase product development, through clinical trial packaging (Phases I through III), to high volume commercial manufacturing.

The company is specialises in modified release technologies such as pellets and in specialist product manufacturing including hormones, penicillins and cephalosporins, in addition to providing manufacturing and packaging services for conventional product forms. Additionally, NextPharma offers integrated logistics solutions.

The firm has six product development centres, six manufacturing plants and six temperature-controlled storage and distribution sites across Europe (production facilities in France and Germany), supplying customers in North America, Europe and the rest of the world.
