Organisers impressed with number and quality of entries

The winners of the Gold, Silver and Bronze CPhI Pharma Awards, formerly known as the Innovation Awards, were announced on the first night of the show in Madrid on 9 October 2012.

The category Best Innovation recognises innovations that are viable on a commercial scale. The category was expanded for 2012 to encourage entries across the formulation, drug delivery, chemical manufacturing of APIs and intermediates, and biomanufacturing of biopharmaceuticals and intermediates sectors.

The winner of the Gold Award was Haemopharm Healthcare’s NIV needle free vial closure. Merck Millipore took the Silver Award for its bimodal silica used as a drug delivery platform, while BioClin’s Multi-Oral Remin remineralisation gel for application in the oral cavity took the Bronze. The judging panel included representatives from CU Chemie Uetikon, Pliva and Merck Millipore.

Two further awards focused on sustainability: Best Sustainable Stand Design, and the newly introduced Best Sustainable Packaging.

‘Sustainability has been a key driver of our business ethos at UBM Live for quite some time,’ said Andrew Pert, Brand Director. ‘As such, we wanted to ensure that this commitment to sustainability is evident in not only the set-up, but also through our awards series so it is fitting that two of the 2012 CPhI Pharma Award categories celebrate and encourage sustainability.

The Best Sustainable Stand Design category recognised one exhibitor who has fully taken the UBM philosophy of minimising impact on the environment into consideration through its presence at the event, and was awarded to Solvias. Also in line with the UBM commitment to sustainability, the Best Sustainable Packaging was won by MWV.
