CPhI Pharma Awards finalists announced

Winners to be revealed at CPhI Worldwide in Madrid


Following an intensive appraisal and evaluation process, the judging panels of the CPhI Pharma Awards for the Best Innovation and Best Sustainable Packaging categories have announced a shortlist of finalists who will present their entries at CPhI Worldwide in Madrid on Tuesday, 9 October. The Gold, Silver and Bronze winners of the Best Innovation category, and the outright winner of the Sustainable Packaging Award, will then be announced at a networking reception being held that evening from 18.00 at the North Entrance of the Feria de Madrid.

Each of the five finalists in the Best Innovation category will present to a judging panel that includes representatives from CU Chemie Uetikon, Pliva, pharmAccel Consulting, and Merck Millipore from 10.00 to 13.00 on stand 5F24 in Hall 5; admission to the sessions is complimentary for all visitors and exhibitors.

Designed to recognise and celebrate the most innovative entry that is viable on a commercial scale, the Best Innovation category has been expanded to include innovations in formulation, drug delivery, chemical manufacturing of APIs and intermediates, and biomanufacturing of biopharmaceuticals and intermediates.

Reflecting the international nature of the CPhI Worldwide, ICSE, P-MEC Europe and InnoPack events, this year’s finalists are:

Merck Millipore, Germany, for its use of bimodal silica as a drug delivery platform; presentation by Roger Weibel, 10.00–10.20am;

Linhardt, Germany, for its MULTIFLEX collapsible tube technology; presentation by Jörg Hemker, 10.30–10.50am;

Haemopharm Healthcare, Italy, for its NIV needle free vial closure; presentation by Dana Barocas, 11.00–11.20am;

Chongqing Carelife Pharm (a subsidiary of YaoPharma), China, for its Alprostadil Dried Emulsion for Injection; presentation by Dr Jennifer Zhang, 11.30–11.50am; and

BioClin, Netherlands, for Multi-Oral Remin, a remineralisation gel for application in the oral cavity, presentation by Floris Koumans, 12.00–12.20pm.

Newly introduced at this year’s events, the accolade in the Sustainable Packaging category will be awarded to an exhibitor that offered a specific material, machine or supply that facilitated sustainable packaging and processes.

Among other factors, the judging panel looked at criteria including the product life cycle and how the sustainable advancement affects it, as well as whether pharmaceutical integrity and patient safety have been ensured. The three finalists in this category will present their entries on 9 October between 10.00 and 12.00 at the InnoPack Speakers Corner located in Hall 10, Stand 10F72.

The inaugural finalists of the Sustainable Packaging Award are:

August Faller, Germany, for its Eco|Save|Pack carton packaging solution; presentation by Jan Luccarda,10.00-10.30am;

MWV Healthcare, US, for its Shellpak Renew adherence enhancing drug packaging; presentation by Tom Grinnan, 10.40–11.10; and

Top Clean Packaging Group, France, for its UNICADOSE plastic vials; presentation by Denis Eyraud, 11.20–11.50am
