Signs agreement with Aché Laboratórios Farmacêuticos

Oxford Nutrascience, a UK pharmaceutical company, has signed an exclusive seven-year licensing and distribution agreement with Aché Laboratórios Farmacêuticos, one of Brazil's largest pharmaceutical companies.

Under the terms of agreement Oxford Nutrascience, based in Oxford, will supply Aché with healthcare products to be sold under Aché's women's health brand called Inellare.

Oxford Nutrascience will develop a number of pharmaceutical products for Aché, as the Brazilian company expands its Inellare product range.

Aché will distribute Oxford Nutrascience’s products into the fast growing Brazilian consumer healthcare market using its extensive sales network.

According to Oxford Bioscience, quoting IMS Health, Brazil has one of the largest and most dynamic pharmaceutical markets in emerging markets, reaching US$22.9bn in 2010, with 2.06 billion pharmaceutical units (pills, tablets, medicine doses, among other units used).

Brazil’s OTC market is forecast to grow by approximately 5.7% each year from 2007 to 2012, making the total size of the market US$6.5bn by 2012.

Oxford Nutrascience’s chief executive Nigel Theobald, said: ‘Working with Aché demonstrates our capability to partner with major pharmaceutical companies who are seeking product innovation.

‘The big pharma companies are attracted by our ability to apply novel pharmaceutic technology to extend the lifecycle of existing branded generic medicines, which they have often invested many millions of dollars into.

‘Oxford Nutrascience continues to punch above its weight and it is encouraging that our other product development and IP, looking initially into the areas of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs continues to attract significant interest from potential commercial partners.’

Oxford Nutrascience also develops chewable tablets and liquid suspension systems using its proprietary taste masking technology.
