Two medicine-related research projects on the short list

The European Commission has selected two medicine-related research projects in a shortlist of six that will compete for two EU funding agreements, each worth €1bn.

One of these competitors is called ‘IT Future of Medicine’ and involves the study of digital technology to deliver individualised medicine, based on molecular, physiological and anatomical data collected from individual patients.

The other is named ‘the Human Brain project’ that will assess the way human brains work to inspire medicine, neuroscience and computing systems. Both have been awarded €1.5m to develop a research proposal over the next 12 months to present to the Commission. It will then decide whether either or both of them will be awarded 10 years of up to €100m funding grants.
