Romanian health ministry responds after being sued by patients

Will publish a revised list of medicines for cancer and chronic diseases

The Romanian health ministry is working on the revised list of medicines that patients suffering from cancer and other chronic disease could receive under their healthcare coverage in the country, after it was sued by patients’ organisations in May.

The country’s Association of Cancer Patients sued the ministry, the Romanian government and the national health insurance organisation for failing to update, over the past six years, the list of medicines for cancer and other chronic diseases covered by healthcare benefits. According to the association, about 1,000 Romanian patients do not have access to the medicines they need.

'We are being sacrificed in the name of the crisis; adults and children who have real chances of survival keep dying and no one in Romania is responsible for these deaths,' an Association spokesperson said.
