Thermo Fisher Scientific elects new director

Nelson J Chai has extensive experience in multiple industries

Thermo Fisher Scientific has elected Nelson J. Chai to its board of directors, bringing the company's total number of directors to 11. Chai has also been appointed to the board's Audit Committee.

Chai is the executive vice president, chief administrative officer and head of strategy for CIT Group, a bank holding company that provides lending, advisory and leasing services to small and mid-sized companies and operates in more than 50 countries. Previously, he served as president, Asia-Pacific for Bank of America Corporation and executive vice president and chief financial officer of Merrill Lynch & Co.

Chai also served in senior positions at Allied Signal and Philip Morris before joining medical diagnostics provider Dade-Behring in 1997. He entered the financial services field in 2000 when he joined Archipelago Holdings, the first all-electronic stock exchange in the US. When the firm was acquired by the New York Stock Exchange in 2006, Chai became the chief financial officer of NYSE Euronext.
