Brendan Cummins has been appointed head of international co-ordination and human resources, as well as a member of the executive committee of Ciba Specialty Chemicals with effect from 1 December. Cummins, until recently managing director of Irish Fertilizers Industry, succeeds Franz Gerny, who is retiring after 40 years with Ciba-Geigy and Ciba Specialty Chemicals.
The Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry (ABPI) has announced the appointment of Andrew Curl as deputy director general. Curl has held a number of senior posts with SmithKline Beecham where, until recently, he was director and vice president, European strategic development. In his role at the ABPI he will focus on trade policy, commercial, economic and public affairs, particularly with reference to the UK.
Simon Sellers has been promoted to vice president and general manager of Great Lakes Fine Chemicals, where he will head the business's commercial and operational activities. Sellers joined Great Lakes in 2000 as vice president of technologies, products and commercial development for fine chemicals. Previously he was responsible for sales and marketing at Catalytica Pharmaceuticals.
UK bursting discs manufacturer Elfab has appointed a new managing director. Simon Keenan was formerly general manager of Viasystems Tyneside and brings more than 10 years' experience to his new role.
Liz Wilson has joined hygrometry and process instrumentation company Michell Instruments as marketing manager. She will be responsible for developing business opportunities in new and existing markets.
With effect from the company's Annual Stockholders' meeting on 26 April 2002, Werner Wenning will succeed Dr Manfred Schneider as chairman of the board of management at Bayer. Wenning is currently chief financial officer and played a leading role in the company's introduction of value management, a profitability-based controlling tool. At the meeting Schneider will stand for election to the supervisory board and will be a candidate for its chairmanship.
David Rowledge has joined the sales support team at vacuum pump and compressor manufacturer ASF Thomas. His main role will be to provide technical sales support.
