The UK Chemical Industries Association (CIA) has launched a new service network offering chemical users a range of services to meet the needs of the Registration, Evaluation and Authorisation of Chemicals (REACH) regulations, due to come into force next year.

REACH covers the development of single new system of registration and evaluation of chemical substances used in products on the market. The regulation is likely to be adopted by the end of the year and come into force in the first half of 2007.

REACHReady is the new venture set up by the CIA, to provide a number of tools to help customers identify whether their products fall within the scope of REACH; how much it might cost to ensure compliance and also which service providers are most appropriate to complete whatever actions are required by the new legislation. There will also be a helpdesk, and regular updates on how the legislation is progressing.

REACHReady has 2 levels of membership. The Silver Service is free, and everyone who signs up will have access to a password protected part of the website containing regularly updated information, receive alerts on upcoming legislative deadlines and information and updates on services available. The other (Gold) service includes access to REACHScope, REACHReckoner, REACHMatchmaker and a help-desk. CIA members get this service as part of their subscription fee but non-members can access the service for an annual fee.
