The pharmaceutical injectable production line will produce around 100 million prefilled syringes and cartridges per year — including small-volume iterations for autoinjectors

Contract development and manufacturing organisation (CDMO) Medac has inaugurated a novel production line at its site in Brno, Czech republic.

The third production line at the site, it will be responsible for the production of high-quality prefilled syringes and cartridges — with an annual capacity of more than 100 million units.

The sterile production line incorporates a continuous filling system, as well as automated optical inspection system to ensure reliable products are produced at pace.

"The third production line represents a major step in our growth and innovation," noted Radek Fialka, Commercial Director and Board Member of oncomed manufacturing.

"By providing small-volume syringes commonly used in autoinjectors, we can facilitate the comfortable and easy self-administration of medicines, leading to better disease management."

This investment will allow Medac to better serve its customers in the pharmaceutical space, while providing injectables to patients worldwide.

This comes at a time when the global demand for injectables is increasing rapidly.

According to Medac, the expansion aligns with the company's goal to expand its global production capacity, as well as its manufacturing infrastructure.

"This new production line will enable us to supply global markets of our customers, and together with our sister company in Germany, we aim to become a major player in the field of prefilled syringes," added Gerhard Wurzer, Chairman of the Board of Medac.

"Our pharmaceutical products represent modern value-added generics that help patients worldwide," he concluded.
