Biotech Fluidics collaborates with Polymer Char to enhance viscosity data precision

Biotech Fluidics AB announce working with Polymer Char (Valencia, Spain), a leading manufacturer of analytical systems for the polymer industry, to incorporate an optimized DeGASi® degasser in their Intrinsic Viscosity instruments.

The implementation of a degasser in analytical systems, particularly in those that include relative viscometers, is critical for maintaining data integrity and reliability. Despite the high purity of laboratory-grade solvents, residual impurities – including dissolved gases such as oxygen and carbon dioxide – are frequently present at trace levels. These gases can nucleate under flow or temperature changes, forming microbubbles that cause signal instability in the detector.

With relative viscometry techniques, even small bubble formation can result in pressure fluctuations, directly impacting viscosity readings and compromising results precision and reproducibility. Degassing effectively mitigates this by continuously removing gases from the solvent phase, thereby preventing bubble generation during the analysis.

Alba Cárdenas, Intrinsic Viscosity product expert at Polymer Char, commented: “We approached Biotech Fluidics to cooperate on this project because of their strong background in degassing technology and willingness to develop an optimized unit for our application. As such, Biotech Fluidics' degasser functions as a key component in our Intrinsic Viscosity instruments. Its integration both enhances detector signal-to-noise ratio and ensures consistent flow dynamics – factors essential for precise and repeatable measurements.”
