Pfeiffer Vacuum apprentices win award for virtual training film

Avoids translation misunderstandings as pumps firm expands into Asia

Four apprentices at German pump manufacturer Pfeiffer Vacuum have won the Hessenmetall ‘My Future’ contest for young blood.

Alena Bölzer, Meike König, Oxana Pozdeev and Lisa Weichl won the ‘Unique products and services’ category for their virtual training films, which explain the steps involved in handling individual turbo pumps and other Pfeiffer Vacuum products. The films are practically speech-free so that any misunderstandings in language translation are avoided.

‘We are proud of our young employees,’ said Matthias Wierner, executive board member responsible for marketing, production and development at Pfeiffer Vacuum Technology. ‘They have not only had a great idea and implemented it well but have also presented their results professionally. Pfeiffer Vacuum will this year become even more international with a clear orientation towards Asia. We are very pleased that this situation is being addressed constructively and innovatively by all our staff.’

The company recently set up a subsidiary in São Paulo, Brazil and now has its own subsidiaries in Brazil, Russia, India and China.

Pfeiffer Vacuum reported unaudited sales of €220.5m in 2010, an increase of 21%.
