Roxtec launches airtight cable and pipe seal for cleanrooms, labs, and advanced facilities

Roxtec has developed the LabSeal, a new airtight and fire-rated cable and pipe penetration seal designed for cleanrooms and laboratories in the pharma, biopharma, and biotech industries

Cable and pipe transit provider Roxtec has developed a new penetration seal that is optimised for labs and cleanrooms within the pharma, biopharma and biotech sectors. The Roxtec LabSeal is airtight, watertight, fire rated – and easy to clean and inspect.

“Designers, builders, owners and operators of labs and cleanrooms must focus on safety, airtightness and cleanability,” says Calle Magnusson, Global Product Manager at Roxtec. “Therefore, we have optimised our new safety seal to help them control the airflow and avoid the risk of unwanted leakage in connection to cable penetrations in walls and ceilings. We have also made sure it is hygienically designed and easy to keep clean.”

For airtight environments

The Roxtec LabSeal is hygienically designed in accordance with GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) guidelines and covers GMP requirements for cleanroom environments. It has an easy-to-clean powder-coated aluminium frame and a smooth surface with drainable edges, integrated compression units and hidden mounting screws.

Approved sealing components

Additional features make Roxtec LabSeal suitable for lab and cleanroom applications.

“It is lightweight, area efficient and easy to install, maintain and inspect,” says Calle Magnusson.

The transit and its components are tested and approved by various authorities. It has the Fraunhofer certificate (Particle emission Class 1 acc. to 14644-1) and is fire rated for E30.

Allows for future expansion

The Roxtec LabSeal is designed for assembly with very few components and for attachment without any visible bolt holes in the structure to ensure an airtight installation. As it is a Roxtec product, it is filled with sealing modules with Multidiameter, the Roxtec invention for adaptability to cables and pipes of different sizes. This simplifies handling of late design changes and helps installers cope with unpleasant surprises caused by unexpected cable or pipe sizes onsite. The feature is also beneficial as it provides optional spare capacity which makes it possible to plan and prepare for efficient upgrades with additional cables, pipes and equipment.
