Penn Pharmaceutical Services has appointed Paul Thomas as director of quality. Thomas had originally been quality assurance manager for the company. During this period, he was involved in several successful licence applications in Europe and the US.

During his career, he has worked in a number of quality assurance and manufacturing posts in the pharmaceutical industry, progressing to a quality assurance management role with Nycomed-Amersham before re-joining Penn.

The specialty chemicals company egussa Corp's Roehm Pharma Polymers Business has appointed David Horton as regional manager and territory manager for south east US and Puerto Rico. Horton will be responsible for sales of Eudragit polymer coatings. Before joining the Degussa Corp, he was Eastern national account manager for Banner Pharmacaps.

Argenta Discovery has appointed Michael Ratchford as president of its business in the US. Ratchford joins Argenta from Evotec OAI, where he was senior vice-president of business development.

Worldwide separation technology specialist Russell Finex has appointed Mike Henson as managing director. Henson will be responsible for the Russell Finex group, including subsidiaries in the US, Belgium and Sweden. He takes over from Keith McIntyre who will continue to work within the company in the role of chairman.

Dr Riku Rautsola has been appointed chief executive officer of biotech company Cosmix. He joins the company from Boehringer Ingelheim, where he was responsible for worldwide marketing

of prescription medicines.

TNT Container Logistics has appointed Darren Hillyer as UK sales manager, strengthening its sales team. Hillyer joins TNT from David S Smith Packaging, where he was general sales manager Northern Europe.

Paul O'Brien has been promoted to president Degussa Corp, replacing Drew Burke. O'Brien has been with Degussa Corp since 1977.

Brecon Pharmaceuticals, the specialist provider of commercial packaging services and clinical trials supplies for the pharmaceutical industry, has appointed Stephen Kemp as business development director. Kemp joins from PCI (Unipack) Services, where he was director of commercial services for the past five years.

Peter Brown has been appointed to the board of Polymer Laboratories as business development director — clinical diagnostics. Brown head up Polymer Laboratories' Clinical and Diagnostics Particle Group, which is a primary developer and manufacturer of particles for bioscience applications. Brown joined Polymer Labs from Dynal, Oslo, Norway, in 1999, with 15 years' experience in international technology, commercialisation and business development.

RPC Group has made two senior appointments to drive the continued expansion and development of the rigid plastics packaging manufacturer to become a major force in the European packaging market. Philip Hilton has been appointed to head up RPC's thermoforming activities in the tub, lid and tray market, while Bernhard Bogardt takes on the newly-created role of group sales and marketing director.

Gary Walters has joined Vivendi Water Systems as market director, Pharmaceutical. He was previously sales director at Domnick Hunter for 12 years, where he was responsible for building up the company's UK business in the pharmaceutical market. Vivendi Water is the leading global provider of water and wastewater services to municipal authorities, industrial companies and consumers.
