Shield Medicare expands facility

Shield Medicare, a leading manufacturer of sterile contamination control products and medical devices for the pharmaceutical, biotechnology and hospital markets, has expanded its cleanroom facility at its south Wales factory to cope with increased sales of its Klercide range of sterile alcohols and biocides for both the UK and worldwide.

The success of the Sterishield delivery system, a patented trigger spray mechanism that keeps the product sterile throughout its use, has led to the expansion of the existing cleanroom facility. The new production suite includes three separate Class 10,000 cleanrooms with four distinct Class 100 areas, offering complete flexibility for product manufacture. The cleanrooms are used for aseptic liquid filling, preparation and packaging of product for terminal sterilisation, and medical device manufacture.

Shield's managing director Richard Salvage said, 'We are very pleased with the new facility. The extra capacity enables us to the meet the needs of our customers and concentrate on our commitment to bring new and innovative products to the contamination control marketplace.'

The additional cleanroom capacity allows Shield Medicare to expand both its own Klercide range and its contract manufacture business. A number of pharmaceutical and medical device companies have already used the company's expertise in contract manufacture.
