International competition rewards top proteomics researchers for outstanding innovation and societal impact

Thermo Fisher Scientific, the world leader in serving science, announces the winners of the 2022 Thermo Scientific Tandem Mass Tag (TMT) Research Award. Now in its eighth year, the research competition selects scientists from a pool of international applicants based on innovation and the potential impact of their work in proteomics using TMT. The proprietary TMT and TMTpro reagents are exclusively licensed to Thermo Fisher Scientific by Proteome Sciences, PLC.

Winners receive awards of TMT and other mass spectrometry-related reagents, valued at US$11,000. The scientists will use these awards to quantify, normalise and streamline global protein expression studies using mass spectrometry.

A panel of judges from Thermo Fisher and Proteome Sciences, PLC, reviewed the applications and selected the following two recipients based on the scientific merit of their proposals:

Stephen Holmes, University of Liverpool

Grant Title: Inactivating and studying viruses at single-cell level

Dick Zijlmans, Stichting Radboud Universiteit

Grant Title: Identifying true interactors in proximal proteome through target protein perturbation

“We are excited to offer the TMT Research Grant Award for the eighth consecutive year,” said Nicolas Pierre, senior director/general manager, cell & protein consumables, life sciences and laboratory products, Thermo Fisher Scientific. “We received a wide range of diverse submissions from graduate and postdoctoral students. We look forward to seeing what these emerging scientists achieve with our reagents and are eager to get a glimpse from them into the future of multiplex proteomics.”

Thermo Fisher Scientific is showcasing the grant award winners during the 70th American Society for Mass Spectrometry (ASMS) Conference on Mass Spectrometry and Allied Topics, being held June 5-9, 2022 in Booth 400 at the Minneapolis Convention Center, Minneapolis, Minnesota and at the Hilton Minneapolis Grand Ballrooms E, F, G.
