Relocates this operation to Edinburgh Technopole

Almac Group, the global contract development and manufacturing organisation headquartered in Craigavon, Northern Ireland, is relocating its peptide custom synthesis operations from its Elvingston, East Lothian facility to a custom-designed, 7,000ft2 wing of the Fleming Building at the Edinburgh Technopole in Scotland.

The move sees the relocation of the front end of the Group’s peptide and protein technology department, which provides expert peptide custom synthesis and process development services for the biotech and pharmaceutical industries globally. The company says the need for these services is growing and the move will ensure that Almac is suitably placed to bring new products and services to market.

Almac's recently announced strategic alliance with TTP Labtech in the area of fluorescence lifetime technology is illustrative of the increasing demands for these specialist services and the move offers the opportunity to support its plans to double its workforce in Scotland within the next three years.

Edinburgh Technopole, part of the Edinburgh Science Triangle, is located less than 20 minutes away from Edinburgh airport and has a thriving on-site scientific community. Neighbouring science campuses mean that Almac will be at the centre of an established life sciences hub providing access to a wealth of expertise and knowledge.

The move, supported by £450,000 investment from Scottish Enterprise, represents a £3.5m investment in bespoke laboratories, offices and equipment.
