Avantor launches aseptic sampling system for bioprocessing

The system also enables exact samples from 0.5 ml to 15 ml

Avantor, a global provider of products and services to life sciences customers, launched its OmniTop Sample Tubes Adjustable Volume Sampling System (AVSS), designed to lower contamination risk and reduce volume loss in bioprocessing operations, by enabling technicians to collect the precise amount of media needed to perform routine sampling.

The system is designed for high-integrity product sampling applications such as monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) and cell and gene therapy processes, as well as final fill operations. It also standardises the bioprocessing sampling process, the company says, contributing to increased processing efficiency.

The system also provides an aseptic method for sampling from research in the lab to final bioprocessing scale up.

As the latest addition to the OmniTop Sample Tubes product line, the system offers a dip tube and integrated adjustment tool, which allows the technician to move the dip tube to the corresponding collection volume. This design makes it possible to remove the exact sample needed—from 0.5 ml to 15 ml - for specific analytical processes.

“Every drop is vital in cell and gene therapy production, especially for patients who are relying on this exacting science for their treatments. Poor sampling methods can have a dramatic effect on the volume yield in any biopharma manufacturing process,” said Timothy Korwan, Director of New Product Development at Avantor. “The OmniTop Sample Tubes AVSS gives technicians a more exacting, efficient and aseptic way to sample and improves product yield for mAbs, and cell and gene therapy.”
