Bausch & Lomb is to open its global pharmaceutical headquarters in Madison, US on Monday, 20 July.

The global eye health company will create 70 full-time jobs at the 3,000m2 facility in New Jersey.

"Establishing our global pharmaceutical headquarters in New Jersey opens up opportunities to partner with other pharmaceutical companies and to drive commercialisation of new products," said Gerald Ostrov, ceo of Bausch & Lomb.

"Our recently announced co-promotion agreement with Pfizer for prescription ophthalmics in the US is the first example of how we are successfully implementing this strategy. We're looking forward to growing our presence here."

Bausch & Lomb said New Jersey's vibrant pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries influenced its decision to establish its pharmaceutical headquarters in New Jersey.

According to the Healthcare Institute of New Jersey, 15 of the world's top 25 pharmaceutical companies have headquarters or significant operations in the area.

The company will maintain its worldwide headquarters in Rochester, New York, and r&d in locations worldwide.

"As we bring new products to market, having our global and US leadership and marketing and sales teams headquartered in New Jersey is ideal," said Flemming Ornskov, global president of Bausch & Lomb's pharmaceutical business.
