Published: 6-May-2022

It will also present product concepts including a packaging product for oral solid drugs called DriTube

Bormioli Pharma, a manufacturer of glass and plastic primary packaging for pharmaceutical use, has announced the launch of EcoPositive, a label for all the company’s sustainable packaging offerings. This includes recycled glass and plastics, bio-based, biodegradable or compostable plastic solutions, and advanced polymer products.

The mark will be presented at industry fair Pharmapack Europe, which will be held in Paris, France on 18th-19th May. Bormioli will be exhibiting at the event on booth A62.

The company has introduced three ranges of low-impact packaging, designed for three different sustainability strategies.

  • Regenerate: glass and plastic packaging recycled from first-choice waste collection
  • Renew: bioplastic packaging derived from renewable sources
  • Reloop: glass and advanced polymer products made from infinitely reusable materials
  • These approaches will be explained by Roberto Valenti, Head of Materials Development, during the Learning Lab that will be held during the fair on May 19.

“We truly believe sustainability will be the next big thing for the pharmaceutical industry, and we are striving to manufacture pharma-grade quality products that are more responsible towards the environment” said Andrea Lodetti, CEO of Bormioli Pharma. “This tangible commitment well reflects our company’s purpose to make health a positive practice, accessible to everyone and kind to the planet”.

Sustainability is increasingly a key goal for company, which has pledged to use 50% sustainable raw materials in its production by 2025. In 2021, this share amounted to 32%. The company will also publish its first Integrated Report based on ESG parameters by H1 2022.

At Pharmapack Europe, Bormioli Pharma will present product concepts, including a packaging product for oral solid drugs called DriTube.

The concept utilises the company’s Driex technology, with a long-lasting active layer designed to minimise moisture, improving the drugs’ therapeutical efficiency over time. Moreover, the plastic container – manufactured in PE – prevents from external moisture inlet.

The container can be opened with one hand, while its pocket-size helps on-the-go use of the product. Once closed after filling, the tamper-evident system activates to prevent counterfeiting.
