Cambrex is an innovative life sciences company that provides products, services and technologies to accelerate the development and commercialisation of small molecule therapeutics

Cambrex Corporation, the leading manufacturer of small molecule innovator and generic active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs), has announced a $9 million investment to expand its large-scale manufacturing capacity at its Karlskoga facility in Sweden.

The investment includes the installation of new multipurpose reactors ranging from 4–12m3 and upgrading of the control room within an existing plant on site.

The new facilities will undergo validation and cGMP qualification ahead of the operational start up in Q4 2016. This extra capacity increases the large-scale manufacturing capabilities of the Karlskoga facility, which supports clients’ development projects from R&D through to large-scale commercial manufacturing.

'Our facility at Karlskoga is strategically important, both in Scandinavia and the wider European markets, and this investment is in response to an increase in demand for larger scale, multipurpose manufacturing capabilities,' commented Bjarne Sandberg, Managing Director, Cambrex Karlskoga. 'By creating greater capacity within the current infrastructure, we have combined expansion and efficiency at the site, both of which will benefit our customers.'

The expansion at Cambrex’s Swedish site is part of an ongoing strategic campaign to invest in small molecule API manufacturing across its global network of facilities.
