To promote knowledge sharing and collaboration between industry, academia, customers and regulators

Catalent Pharma Solutions has launched the Catalent Applied Drug Delivery Institute, which aims to promote innovation, knowledge sharing, and collaboration between industry leaders, academic experts, customers and regulators to enhance understanding of drug delivery technologies and improve patient care.

‘The mission of the Catalent Applied Drug Delivery Institute is to bring better treatments to market by advancing the development and adoption of applied drug delivery technologies,’ said Kurt Nielsen, Catalent’s senior vp of research and development.

‘By harnessing the knowledge of some of the world’s leading experts in drug development, delivery and formulation, the Institute will cultivate leadership and excellence in drug development through education, training, and innovation.’

As part of its mission, the Institute will serve as a link between industry and academia by providing guidance, counsel, and resources on major issues in drug development, delivery and formulation. It will develop projects that facilitate collaboration, increase communication, and shed light on regulatory issues affecting drug developers and researchers.

It also will pursue a multi-tiered approach of seed funding, strategic counsel, and educational programmes to advance the adoption of emerging technologies.

Rao Tatapudy, Catalent’s vp of Scientific Affairs, said: ‘In launching the Institute, we hope to start an informative and productive dialogue between industry and academic experts that will spur innovation at the benchtop and in the marketplace.’

A series of Institute initiatives to enhance understanding of drug delivery will target both industry and academia, and include:

  • Applied drug delivery events and training programmes for industry;
  • Innovation and research collaborations with universities and technology companies;
  • A Catalent Applied Drug Delivery Institute Scientific Journal;
  • Science Leaders of Tomorrow university partnership programme;
  • Student Drug Delivery Guide;
  • Annual Drug Delivery Landscape Technology Survey
