ClinTec appoints ex-AstraZeneca executive as Global Head of Clinical Operations

Alastair MacDonald joins the firm with almost 25 years of experience in clinical development

ClinTec International has welcomed Alastair MacDonald as Global Head of Clinical Operations, as the clinical research company expands its capabilities.

MacDonald joins the firm from AstraZeneca with almost 25 years of experience in clinical development.

Most recently, he was Global Medical Evidence and Observational Research Director at AstraZeneca.

During his time at the Anglo-Swedish group, MacDonald contributed to the development pipeline and commercialisation, with a focus on oncology.

His oncology background includes recent contributions to the development and subsequent commercialisation of a number of key treatments across a broad range of cancers.

MacDonald was a Board Director of the Institute of Clinical Research (ICR), an organisation responsible for education, training and career development of clinical research professionals in the UK.

In 2013 he was awarded an Honorary Fellowship of the ICR.

His previous career includes the role of Regional Manager for SmithKline Beecham Pharmaceuticals (GlaxoSmithKline) ensuring clinical delivery for the UK local operating office and at Leo Pharmaceuticals, a Denmark-based pharmaceutical company, where he specialised in the development of treatments for dermatology and pancreatic cancer.
