Acquisitions will play a key role in growth plans

Packaging producer Clondalkin Group is looking for acquisitions in pharmaceutical and healthcare packaging as part of its plans to increase its presence in the sector.

Clondalkin’s Specialist Packaging Group already has eight manufacturing sites across Europe with PS 9000:2000 certification. Ditone Labels and Harlands Labels in the UK, Pharmagraphics Guy, Kenilworth Products and Cahill Printers in Ireland, Cartonplex in Spain and Boxes Prestige Poland and Harlands Labels Poland produce cartons, labels, leaflets, literature and inserts/outserts. Its Keller-Crescent division in the US also bought Puerto Rican labels manufacturer Lehigh Press in January.

Specialist Packaging Division chief executive David Lennon said he now wanted to take the expertise, technical innovation and production capability available within the division a step further.

‘We want to ensure Clondalkin Group becomes synonymous around the world with market-leading pharmaceutical and healthcare packaging,’ he said.

‘The PS 9000:2000 accreditations form part of achieving that goal and give a clear endorsement of the high standards we achieve.’

Acquisitions of ‘well-invested packaging companies that occupy strong pharmaceutical and healthcare market positions’ will also play a key role, he added.

The Group has supported the expansion of its pharmaceutical and healthcare capabilities with a multi-million Euro investment programme over the past two years.

Pharmaceutical and healthcare annual sales account for approximately €200m of Clondalkin Group’s annual sales of €800m.
