ClinTec International’s founder and CEO, Dr Rabinder Buttar, won the ‘Female Entrepreneur of the Year’ award at this year’s Scottish Business Awards held in Edinburgh.
The awards, which are the largest of their kind in the UK, were attended by US President Bill Clinton, Scotland’s First Minister Alex Salmond, and representatives from 1,600 businesses, which have a combined turnover of around £110bn.
‘Winning this award is great recognition of the work the team and I do in supporting the pharmaceutical industry in developing novel medicines for the treatment of major diseases such as cancer and diabetes,’ said Dr Buttar.
‘ClinTec has grown substantially since it was founded in 1997, and it is always an honour to win awards such as this. I feel it reflects the work we do and the achievements that we have generated to date from management right through to the work delivered on the ground for our international clients.’
The clinical research organisation has expanded into more than 40 countries in 17 years, and is now ranked as a leading CRO in a variety of key markets across the globe, including the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region.
Dr Buttar founded ClinTec in 1997, and it now includes 10 of the world’s top pharmaceutical companies as clients, as well as having a diverse workforce with staff in 43 countries.
After meeting keynote speaker President Clinton, Dr Buttar was presented with her award by Deloitte’s Senior Partner, Iain Steele.
President Clinton spoke about the upcoming Scottish Independence Referendum in 2014, while also highlighting the important work his Clinton Foundation Charity conducts in countries such as Malawi, in which ClinTec has also helped facilitate important vaccine trials in recent years.
