ECHA releases new chemical classification and labelling database
Aims to improve how ECHA makes this information available
The European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) has released a revised chemical database containing classification and labelling information on notified and registered chemical substances received from manufacturers and importers. Under the European Union’s (EU) REACH chemical control system, ECHA receives a comprehensive flow of information about chemicals.
The new database will improve how ECHA makes this information available for chemical-based companies such as pharmaceutical manufacturers. For instance, the database will include information about where a data supplier has indicated that an impurity or an additive is present. Researchers can differentiate between differently hydrated forms of the same substance. Publicly available IUPAC (International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry) names for substances will be linked to chemicals as notified by data providers. And information on the effect of chemicals on organs, as well as other specific health effects and routes of exposure are also noted. 'ECHA aims to further enhance the user-friendliness and readability of the database,' said the Agency.
