G-CON Manufacturing, US-based producer of prefabricated cleanroom pods for pharma and biopharma manufacturing, has broken ground on a new manufacturing building on its corporate campus.
The new building will provide an additional 12,000 ft2 of manufacturing space for the trademarked PODs and will be adjacent to existing facilities.
With the addition, G-CON will now have over 62,000 ft2 of office and manufacturing space at its corporate campus in College Station, Texas.
Earlier this year, the company purchased its corporate campus and an adjacent 8.8 acre tract as part of its expansion plan.
It is also in the planning phases for an even larger manufacturing facility on the eight acre tract.
'G-CON’s expansion represents an important milestone in our company’s growth. With the increased number of orders we have received and of the additional projects planned, the time was right for us to make these additional investments in our infrastructure so that we can fulfill our customers’ needs,' said Maik Jornitz, President, G-CON Manufacturing.
G-CON’s POD-based approach has garnered significant interest since the announcement of its groundbreaking oral solid dosage form POD system built pursuant to its collaboration with Pfizer and GEA – this consortium now also includes GSK.
'The pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical industries are shifting to process intensification and therefore smaller footprint manufacturing sites,' added Jornitz.
'These sites must be rapidly deployable and, if needed, relocatable and repurposable. These attributes can be fulfilled by our PODs and the industry has recognised this fact.
'For this reason we see accelerated growth in our order intake and proposal requests. We are not only increasing our manufacturing capabilities in Texas, but are also actively working on the establishment of two international sites to serve the European and Asian regions.'
