GEA Pharma Systems, a supplier of pharmaceutical processing equipment, has signed an agreement with ACE Technologies of Mumbai to sell its Lyophil pharmaceutical freeze dryers throughout India. This follows a previous distribution agreement signed in February for ACE to sell GEA's Courtoy tablet presses.

ACE is one of India's leading suppliers of processing technology for the pharmaceutical and cosmetics industry. It has a wide customer network and service capabilities that will help GEA expand in this rapidly growing market.

"The new agreement will provide an excellent service network enabling us to react more quickly to our customers" requirements for leading edge pharmaceutical freeze drying equipment with a first-class back up service," said Navin Lakhanpaul, regional manager for GEA Pharma Systems in India.

The arrangement covers the supply and servicing of all GEA Lyophil equipment, including the ALUS (Automatic Loading and Unloading System), which was pioneered by the company 20 years ago. GEA says ALUS meets the need for effective contamination prevention and operator protection when handling toxic substances.

It also includes the supply of GEA Lyophil's new Smart Lyo pharmaceutical freeze dryers, which use standard modules to create a plant customised for the needs of each customer.

Until now all GEA's sales in India have been handled through its regional office in Vadodara, Gujarat. However, the company has recognised that a national network is necessary to service the whole country.
