Irish plant expansion increases mini-booklet capacity

Chesapeake Corporation has completed a major expansion of its Field Boxmore plant in Westport, Ireland. The installation of new cutting, folding and bindery equipment will enable the plant to undertake high-volume production of mini-booklets for the pharmaceutical and healthcare market.

The mini-booklet was developed by Chesapeake in collaboration with global pharmaceutical companies to solve the problem of presenting increasing amounts of patient information. Existing solutions tend to be bulky, with small type sizes and awkward multiple folds.

The mini-booklet can present a large amount of detailed patient information neatly in a very small, yet reader-friendly miniature format, says Chesapeake. It is perfect bound and available in different sizes down to 35 x 50 x 2.5mm. Typically, mini-booklets are the size of a credit card with as many as 150 pages. Chesapeake also produces mini- booklets at its plant in Bornem, Belgium.

'Our mini-booklet product development efforts and subsequent manufacturing expansion in Ireland strengthen our focus on growth-oriented niche markets such as pharmaceutical and healthcare,' said Thomas H. Johnson, Chesapeake chairman, president and ceo.
