A Flashmix FMX25 has been sold to a medical supplies manufacturer for the production of a medical paste, a product used for oral treatment of hospital patients who are on ventilation or unable to see to their oral hygiene themselves.

The product is water-based and made from a mixture of sodium bicarbonate, mint oil and a powdered thickener with a final viscosity of around 18,000 cps.

Before contacting Silverson Machines, the customer was making the product in 20 - 40 litre batches using a simple propeller mixer.

They were unable to produce the product quantities needed quickly and the small batches they were able to make were taking a long time.

Even after a lengthy process time the results obtained using the propeller mixer were low quality and inconsistent between batches.

The customer carried out trials at Silverson with an FMX25 making 200 litre batches of product.

The trials went well and the company were able to produce larger batches in a much shorter time, helping them to keep up with demand.

The FMX25 also improved the quality of the product which was consistent from batch-to-batch.
