Technology used with MicroDose electronic dry powder inhalers

MicroDose Therapeutx and Nexus6 have signed a non-exclusive agreement whereby MicroDose will be able to provide its electronic dry powder inhaler (DPI) with Nexus6’s SmartinhalerLive technology built in. The agreement follows a joint product development programme between the two companies that was completed in 2009.

The agreement will allow MicroDose’s inhaler wirelessly to upload dosing and compliance information from the inhaler to a web-based server for data management and reporting, facilitating better communication between the doctor, patient and pharmaceutical company to improve all aspects of care.

David Evans, chief executive of Nexus6, said: ‘This partnership between Nexus6 and MicroDose will enable the drug delivery marketplace to access leading edge data collection and transmission capabilities, thereby increasing pharmaceutical adherence, improving patient well-being and reducing overall healthcare costs.’
