Pharma packaging products win FPA Awards

Amcor Flexibles and Ampac are honoured for their technical innovation

Amcor Flexibles took the Gold Award in the Technical Innovation category for its interior tinted/printed Formpack

Two pharmaceutical products won awards at the Flexible Packaging Association’s (FPA) Annual Achievement Awards announced this week in Scottsdale, Arizona, US.

Amcor Flexibles took the Gold Award in the Technical Innovation category for its interior tinted/printed Formpack, which serves the prescription and over-the-counter blister pack markets.

The Formpack is a product extension of the cold form materials offered by the Australian packaging firm. It allows customers to package a full range of tablet colours without the downtime and waste caused by false rejections.

Amcor says blister packaging line efficiency is improved and overall costs are reduced.

The Formpack also enables customers to use the tinted package without conducting new stability testing, which results in faster product launches and speed to market.

Additionally, the option of including print supports product brand recognition.

Ampac took a Silver Award for packaging excellence in the Technical Innovation category for the Easysnap sachet pouch developed for Covidien.

The Easysnap sachet pouch provides a controlled unit dose of a product that can be dispensed with one hand. Overcoming the barrier and burst requirements of the package was achieved by using highly engineered structures.

The resulting package provides a clear improvement in convenience, unit dosage, and dispensing control over traditional sachets, the US firm says.

The FPA is the leading trade organisation for flexible packaging converters and suppliers. The Annual Achievement Awards honour packaging and converting organisations that demonstrate technologies, printing techniques, package structures, environmental advantages and new end-uses.

The goal of the FPA Annual Achievement Awards is to showcase the diverse uses for flexible packaging: 126 entries were received this year and 25 packages were honoured with achievement awards.
