Product line will complement SP's Hull and VirTis pilot and production freeze dryer range

SP Industries, a US-based designer and manufacturer of laboratory equipment, freeze dryers, laboratory supplies and glassware has bought the assets of privately held PennTech Machinery.

No financial details have been disclosed.

PennTech is a global provider of complete vial handling solutions covering washing, sterilisation, filling, stoppering, capping and both tray and freeze dryer loading/unloading equipment, located in Warminster, PA, US.

'PennTech has a well-earned reputation for producing high quality, often customised, equipment and is the only US-based manufacturer to offer complete aseptic processing lines,' said SP Industries' CEO Bill Downs.

'PennTech’s current portfolio, engineering expertise and broad capabilities around liquid vial handling are a very strategic complement to our Hull and VirTis pilot and production freeze dryer lines, allowing us to offer a complete suite of manufacturing solutions for semi-automated to fully automated drug production environments.'

PennTech will be established as a flagship brand within the SP Scientific equipment division. Key manufacturing, engineering, sales and service personnel from PennTech have joined the SP team to assure continuity in operations and service.

According to Downs, Vincent Smit, who was CEO of PennTech, will 'play a significant role in sales and product development projects and we look forward to benefiting from his vision and depth of knowledge'.
