Tackling water for injection at Making Pharmaceuticals UK 2018

Published: 23-Apr-2018

Veolia Water Technologies (Veolia), a global leader in optimised resource management, is delighted to be exhibiting at Making Pharmaceuticals UK on the 24 – 25 April 2018 at the Ricoh Arena, Coventry

Veolia team members will be on hand at Stand 318 to discuss pharmaceutical water requirements, from water purification to recovery of wastewater.

A highlight of Veolia’s presence will be James Steptoe, business development manager at Veolia, who will be speaking at 4:55 pm on the Tuesday in Room C. His talk entitled Water for injection production with reverse osmosis-based systems will be addressing the large volumes of high purity water required for water intensive processes in drug manufacturing.

Traditionally, water for injection (WFI) has been purified by distillation in accordance with the European Pharmacopeia. However, regulation changes in April 2017 recognised that reverse osmosis (RO) systems coupled with a secondary membrane system were an equally suitable purification option.

James’ presentation will analyse the benefits that RO can bring, and what pharmaceutical production sites should consider before deciding on which WFI technology to use.

The 20 minute seminar will tackle a number of potential challenges posed by WFI purification, ending with a cost, risk and sustainability comparison between distillation and RO, with attention given to Veolia’s ORION multi-technology platform.

Visit Veolia at Stand 318 before heading over to James Steptoe’s presentation at 4:55 pm on Tuesday the 24th of April in Room C.
