UK advanced wound healing company, Smart Matrix Limited (SML) is s seeking clearance to commercialise an advanced wound care product with the potential to heal full thickness wounds without a skin graft.
Smart Matrix is a scaffold designed to enable the body to mimic the natural regeneration process to rapidly heal acute wounds.
Data from pre-clinical and early clinical studies suggest Smart Matrix may support the healing of wounds without the use of a skin graft, the current standard of care.
Smart Matrix could substantially reduce the number of skin grafts required for wounds.
Clinical trial results have drawn a favourable reaction from the medical community – it has been described as a “game changer”, the company claim.
“Based on data from early trials, Smart Matrix has the potential to substantially reduce the number of skin grafts required in the treatment of wounds,” said Andy Hill, CEO.
“We believe that this product has the potential to become the wound healing technology of choice for surgeons, offering tremendous benefits to both patients and care providers alike.”
SML was spun out of the Restoration of Appearance and Function Trust (RAFT), a medical research charity working in the field of tissue regeneration.
The spin out was to commercialise certain products based on the platform technology developed by RAFT scientists.
